I love working out at home. It allows me to workout whenever I want and save some serious cash. Today I’m talking about how to get fit from home and save money. There are a few reasons you’ll never catch me in a gym. I don’t know about you, but the thought of loading up all four of my kids to go to the gym sounds like more work than the workout itself. I think it’s great that most gyms have free childcare, but that just isn’t for me.
Heck, I have a hard enough time preparing for a home workout, let alone paying a gym membership that I’ll likely never use. I always say the hardest part of the workout is getting ready to work out. I know, I sound like a big baby, don’t I? Have I mentioned I hate working out?
I may not like working out, but I still fit it in at least three times a week because I know it’s good for me, and I feel a lot better when I do it. Sometimes it’s hard to find the time to fit in a workout when you’ve got a bunch of kids running around. By the end of the day, I have no energy left, so it’s important for me to get my workout done earlier in the day, preferably before breakfast, but that doesn’t always happen.
Being a busy mom for me means I need to work out at home. I don’t have the time or the will to drive to a gym, so I figured out a way to get fit at home for free. The only thing I bought was a set of dumbbells. Today I’m going to share with you what I do to get fit at home for free.
Step 1: Make a Workout Schedule
In order for me to get much done during the day, I have to make a written schedule. I try to schedule out my week ahead of time. Of course, things come up sometimes that aren’t expected, like a rush job I need to drop everything and work on ASAP or one of the kids gets sick. I don’t let it ruin my schedule when things pop up, though. My schedule is basically just an outline for the way I’d like my week to go, and if it doesn’t go the way I planned, it’s no big deal.
Step 2: Find Free Workouts Online
My absolute favorite free workouts online are over on Fitness Blender. You can use the search tool to find specific workouts for your needs. You can choose your instructor, male or female, the type of workout, and the specific body parts you want to focus on. My favorite workout on the entire site is the Total Body Strength Workout for People Who Get Bored Easily - Total Body Burnout.
I aim for five workouts a week, but honestly, most of the time I only hit three. I schedule three days of strength training and two days of cardio on our rowing machine.
Step 3: Track Your Activities and Meals
Writing things down really helps me stick to my goals, so I created a Daily Fitness Tracker to help me keep track of my workouts, calorie count, and water intake. If you’d like to download the tracker I use, you can find it in my members-only resource library. If you aren’t a member yet, you can subscribe by clicking the button below.
I’m always adding new freebies to my resource library. There you can find budgeting worksheets, cleaning schedules, my Find Your Passion workbook, and more. You’ll also get my weekly newsletter, so you’ll never miss a blog post or freebie in the future. I’d love to have you join my Mom For More community!
