How I Make Money From Home Online
I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for 12 years. Wow. Just hearing those words is crazy to me. Not only have I been a mom for 12 years, but I’m accomplishing my dream of what I always imagined I’d do when I was all grown up. I get to stay home with my kids, and I love it.
I remember as a kid being asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I never really had an honest answer. Of course, I’d throw out the generic “doctor” or “teacher,” but neither of those were the truth. The honest answer was I had no clue, but I knew I’d be a mom.

As I got older, I still couldn’t answer that question. When my senior year in high school rolled around, I was still clueless, but I knew that I wanted to marry my boyfriend (and I did), and I knew I wanted to be a mom. An actual career never came to me, even in college. I just knew that the reason I couldn’t figure this one out was because I was meant to be a stay-at-home mom, and I was content with that.
Over the years, I’ve tried to supplement my husband’s income by starting up small businesses. We’ve always just lived paycheck to paycheck, and that’s just not the kind of life I want to live. We’ve never had any margin in our budget.
These businesses helped to give up a little cushion, but the types of businesses they were wore me down and burned me out.
My first business was a craft/sewing business. Customized diaper bags were my specialty, but it only paid me pennies an hour. Not ideal considering the amount of time it took me to complete one bag. I definitely burned out on that one.
The next business I had was an in-home daycare. I had that business for a little over two years when our third daughter was born. I decided that three of my own kids would be enough for me at that point in time, and my husband and I decided I needed to take a break anyway. He had just received a big promotion and was making more money than he had ever made, so it was a good decision for us as a family.
What I’m Doing Now
At this point in time, I actually have three businesses.
My main source of income is my proofreading business. I proofread for authors, bloggers, and court reporters, and I absolutely love it! It’s easy work for me, and right now with only two regular clients, I’m bringing in $600-$800 a month. I plan on doing a little marketing in the coming weeks to snag two more regular clients and up my income. If you’d like to learn more about how you can become a proofreader, click here.
My second source of income is my network marketing business with Monat. I don’t work very hard at promoting this business, but it’s an excellent money maker. In my first full month with Monat, I was able to bring in a “comma check.” It’s exciting and I love the products! I plan on writing a post about my hair transformation in the future. I’ll link it here.
Third is web design and freelance writing. This is something that I just kind of do every now and then, but I’m going to start really marketing for it again soon. I’ve found most of my work on Upwork. Upwork has some pretty large fees, but it’s great to get experience and land some long-term clients.

One thing I’ve learned over the last couple of years is that it’s possible to create an income doing absolutely anything online. You can teach music or dance lessons, sell a product, offer a service, etc. Heck, I know of one person who makes over six figures selling grasshoppers. You can literally do ANYTHING online to earn money.
So that’s it! That’s how I make money from home. It’s not a lot of money month to month, but it definitely helps give us some margin in our budget to do things we never really got to do before. For example, we took a vacation to Destin, FL, in August and had a blast! It’s so beautiful there.
Do you work from home? What do you do? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
